Effective martial arts for all skill levels

Gracie Barra Garden Grove is located on the corner of Valley View Street and Chapman Avenue, in the Valley View Office Park. Our Garden Grove martial arts school is most easily accessible by Orange County, California residents, where the I-405 and SR-22 freeways meet 1.3 miles from our academy. Our marquee program is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or BJJ, THAT is a unique grappling martial art combining technique with leverage and natural body movements to defend yourself. The strength of the art lies in its ability to empower those who are smaller or less athletic to defeat bigger stronger opponents through the application of joint lock and choke submissions.

Programs for Beginners

Our beginners program is designed to teach you the fundamentals of the art in a safe and welcoming environment. You are a part of the action from your first day onward to help you reach your goals as quickly and efficiently as possible. Whether you are looking for self defense or just an exciting new way to get in shape, the beginners program is the right start for anyone interested in BJJ.

Professional Instruction

Only the finest of Jiu-Jitsu practitioners can become Gracie Barra instructors. Head instructor Professor Alex D’Hue has extensive combat experience, both in Jiu-Jitsu competition and the marine corps. With over eight years of experience teaching, his degree in speech communication, and his deep desire to see every student succeed, he is able to provide top level instruction for any student at any level.

Our Programs

Fundamentals Program

Fundamentals classes properly introduce teens and adults to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by starting with safety, basic: movements, positions, strategy and an optional introduction to sparring at the end of each session.

Advanced classes for intermediate to advanced teen and adult practitioners, consist of high-level techniques and drills, followed by several rounds of live grappling.

Our summer camp for kids is so more than just martial arts. Overall the 3 areas we focus on are: 1. Activities, 2. Education, 3. Martial Arts. Instruction extends far beyond the typical 1 hour Future Champions classes by including multiple hours of training each day to not only help children grow their technical proficiency, but also character and fitness.

The Future Champions program consists of 3 levels: Little Champions for ages 4 to 6, Juniors for ages 7 to 12, and Kids Competition. Our children's program is among the most established in Orange County.

Perfect for Self-Defense

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s greatest strength is providing athletically inferior opponents to defeat stronger and faster unskilled opponents. Core philosophies of grappling to gain control over your opponent and using gravity and natural body movements to gain an advantage significantly reduces the risk of being struck and deescalates conflict in a less violent way. It’s effectiveness makes it an essential skill in mixed martial arts and a requirement for the various U.S. military branches’s combatives programs

Fitness the Fun Way

Garden Grove Jiu Jitsu provides more impressive results than your typical workout. The grappling techniques you will learn improve your core strength by an intense workout in your abdomen increased muscle tone and trimmed body fat. At the same time, you will notice better muscular endurance, improved body balance, and larger cardiovascular capacity.

Our state of the art martial arts dojo features a mat area, build on a platform to have the same level of cushioning as Judo mats, by stacking white Tatame mats on top of tires.
